Secondhand Serenade
A Twist in My Story
Are they a one hit wonder? Does anyone care about their sophomore release? We'll see if John Vesely can hit the radio waves as hard as he's hit the internet with this new album.
COUNTRY
Chris Cagle
My Life's Been a Country Song
You know, at least the man admits it. So if you get the album, and then have to listen to how his woman left him and ran over his dog with his pick up truck, you know it's probably autobiographical. The lead single from this album, "What Kinda Gone," put Cagle back on the charts, but we'll see what the rest of the album has in store.
AMBIENT
Morcheeba
Dive Deep
I don't buy albums. I just don't. I can't stand having to commit to 14-17 tracks, half of which might be mediocre. But I found true love in Morcheeba long ago, friends. And I will buy a Morcheeba album. In fact, I might just go out and buy this one. With a mixture of smooth, electronic sound (not a Daft Punk dance party), and an ever-changing roster of guest vocalists, they never bore me.
METAL
Kingdom of Sorrow
Kingdom of Sorrow
I've freely admitted that I know almost nothing about metal, but apparently, if you do, then this is the album you've been waiting for all your life. The band is the pet project of the lead singer from Hatebreed (seriously? They named a band that?), and the track "Screaming at the Sky" didn't give me an instant migraine, so this may be metal's brave new hope.
LATIN
K-Paz de la Sierra
En Vivo: Desde El Auditorio Nacional
Do you even know how long it took me to find the right Latin album for this week's Dropping? But here it is: a live combination CD/DVD from K-Paz de la Sierra. Tragically, their lead singer was murdered last December, so this dynamic recording from September 2007 is even more of a treasure.
