Just when you thought the incoming trends of social networking were near a close, a new player is making its rounds on the scene - Fanbox.com.
FanBox is one of the first popular incarnations of the web 3.0 trends of the future. Described as a web-based social desktop, FanBox is basically a computer inside of a browser window.
Modeled similarly to Microsoft Vista's desktop, FanBox essentially takes users into an entirely new dimension, utilizing web-apps and file sharing capabilities, tied in with a public profile to create an almost eerie feeling of being technologically mighty.
Located within FanBox is, coincidentally, a web browser icon that allows users to open a browser window within the browser window that is already being used - a very ingenious concept.
Based out of San Diego, FanBox (formerly SMS.ac) claims "Unlike other companies that publish members' music and video without paying the creators of user-generated content, FanBox's unique community-driven economy ensures that there's an upside for everyone."
That is where the social end of FanBox comes into play. Members that post videos and music through FanBox can choose to receive payment or credit for the revenue that their content has matriculated.
FanBox is one of the most innovative new social networks on the web. With over 50 million registered users, FanBox is creeping up on the social strongholds. The extensive features, storage, and revenue-sharing opportunities just might propel FanBox to the top - only time will tell.
